Judy's Story

I attended a lot of schools. I started Kindergarten in Wofeboro, NH, at Carpenter Elementary then moved to Lynn, Mass, where I attended the North Shore Christian School which was located in Saugus at that time. I went to Pickering Jr High in Lynn for my 7th grade and remember my father taking me in the Cook's Armored Car that he drove as a second job. Moved back to NH to go to school at Laconia High School for my 8th grade. Then moved to Colorado where I attended Mary Louise Flood Jr High (9th) and Englewood High School (10th and part of 11th). Moved to Buckhannon, WV, where I attended BUHS from 1961 to 1963. My brother Jim Petty was just two years behind me in school. Sadly, Jim passed away in 2002 while living in Aurora, CO. He had bladder cancer. If you smoke - stop now. Stop for the people who love you and will miss you every day. I retired on disability in 1998 from American Mutual Life where I was a business analyst. My husband, Leon, retired in 2004 from Bridgestone Agricultural Tire Co where he was an engineer but returned the next year as a contract worker for "2 months" which turned in to almost 3 years. Finally got him to retire for good and left that same day in 2009 for a 4 1/2 month trip in our little 13 foot travel trailer traveling to the East Coast, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. I could travel forever but hubby Leon wanted to head home. We have a son, David, who works for a security company ...Expand for more
and is a private investigator in Des Moines. He is married to Leann Oxley who has started, with a partner, an official rescue called Iowa Animal Partnership coordinating between rescues and shelters. They do not have a facility at this time and are coordinating pulling and transportation of rescue animals. We love all kinds of music. I play the "doghouse" bass and a bit of guitar. Leon plays just about everything with fiddle, mandolin, and Irish banjo being his favorites. But he also plays Irish accordion, Cajun accordion, Irish flute, Irish bazooki, and guitar. He is in a local Irish band called "Knotwork". We also play at the Iowa State Fair with the Carlisle Reunion Band and Hogan's Goat two Old-Time String Bands. We are fixing up a century old home in Mitchellville. Hey, that's old for Iowa! It is pretty slow going with Leon working. But this Fall we got the new roof and the "Witch's Cap" built back on the tower of our plain Victorian. The bad roof had put a lot of our ideas on hold for too many years but we finally found someone who could do the roof and the witch's cap at the same time as well as straighten out the rafters. I love to garden and scrapbook and am now getting into painting furniture with chalk paints. We love to try new restaurants and recipies. My favorite recipe right now is "Steak Diane" from Delmonico's New Orleans. Email me for it. See you at the 50th reunion! EDITED TO ADD: See you at the 60th reniun! Judy
